Vera L. Melo is a Peruvian-American artist and researcher working through drawing, architecture, infrastructure, memory, perception, and sacred sport. Her site-based practice combines direct observation, walking, sustained attention, recollection, and return. Large-scale works in graphite, charcoal, ink, and printmaking examine how built structures bear material and collective traces without assigning consciousness or intention to architecture.
Melo developed infraDIVINE to name the interstice where material infrastructure and reverential attention meet. Her praxis-based method, Oscillation, moves iteratively between site and drawing, perception and interpretation, memory and imagination, measurement and embodiment, and presence and absence. The Ziggurats inquiry approaches stadiums as monumental civic architectures shaped by ritual, devotion, identity, movement, and collective memory.
She holds an MRes from the Royal College of Art, an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, and an MEd from the University of Virginia, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Before establishing her full-time art and research practice, she served as a United States Army combat medic and worked in infrastructure protection. These experiences inform her sustained attention to embodiment, material evidence, ethical witness, and the structures through which collective life moves.
